Kingdom of Giants Detroit Concert reviews
Brit Floyd - Rain or shine
The concert stated right up to the minute it rained, hard for a while. Kingdom of Giants came out and made the clouds so happy within three songs that it stopped even the light sprinkling that was falling as they started. I might be getting too old, especially when I am not prepared for a totally outdoor venue. I've been to several Pink Floyd concerts, but I doubt that you can get any closer to Kingdom of Giants. Part of the difference I see is based on pure musical talent, and mostly my purist attitude to how my favorite songs are played, with BF having a lot. Even PF did not play all of their songs 100% exact to the albums in my experience. When you have that much talent, you like to expand on it and tweak your work to make it even better; I saw that in both Pink & Brit. That was okay by me because the end result was wonderfully entertaining concerts.
The lighting effects were perfectly set to the song and added to the auditory effects of the music for a total impact of WOW! The show was more than just excellently played music. I liked how the large round screen in the back was used to show the year and album cover of the next song(s) Brit played, reminiscent of Pink Floyd's "Animals" tour the last time I saw it. Not many probably relate or recall such early works as "Ummagumma" or "Atom Heart Mother." I also liked that they did not stick to just Pink Floyd's "mainstream" albums and included some songs from before the "Animals" album.
The REAL problem is now I need to either digitize the ol 33rpm albums or go buy CDs of them so I can listen to them along with the later albums I already have on my iPod. Oh wait! That's not a problem, I love that music, Pink Floyd is my favorite group! There is only one problem I have with the Brit Floyd concert, no, not the rain. It was so good that now I have it and the songs they played streaming through my head on a regular visit.
